British Prime Minister Mr. Cameron enjoying a pint of Pride in the Hock Cellar tasting room at Fuller's brewery. WY yeast starter on its way!
This yeast is over a year old but no worries! Why and how do we make starters? Recipe on my site too! Guides to building and using your brewery. Tons of recipes! Started this WY yeast starter a couple of days early because the smack pack was old. The stupid power adapter for my stir plate stopped working late last night. Check out how fast it settles, and the snowstorm when it starts back up. Yeast is now in the fridge settling out.
Recipe on my website! Brew day tomorrow! Setting up the water adjustment salts and grinding grain. It's a smooth and astonishingly complex beer, which has a distinctive malty base complemented by a rich balance of well developed hop flavours from the Target, Challenger and Northdown varieties.
Recipe and complete brewing process on my website! Poobah58 Assistant Brewer Posts: You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning! I brewed this a couple years ago and loved it. Come to think of it I may make this again soon! London Calling 1. This LP is pretty close, tho. Good Luck! I taste a touch of dark crystal in there as well. Quote from: monk on March 10, , pm. Needs more than two weeks to clear properly, but is excellent after four weeks.
Now waiting for ESB to condition in four weeks time! Still very close to the real thing! Still just missing a small amount of the orangey hop element. I actually added half a jar of old english marmalade to help which gave just a hint in the aftertaste but didn't have the depth of orange flavour in the real thing.
The aroma was nt as intense either but still a very good pint! Maybe a variation on the hops will help this for the next batch Good introduction to extract brewing. My first attempt at home brewing was the Woodeford's Wherry extract kit, which was very easy to do and a nice tasting beer. For my second brew I wanted to push myself a bit more and get to grips with boiling a wort and understanding hop additions etc.
This ingredient pack was perfect for that. Its a pretty straight forwards recipe with some steeping grain and only a few hop additions. My other reason for wanting to move to extract brewing over kits was that this brew was to be consumed by the family over Christmas so I wanted something with a little more flavour and freshness than I got from the kit.
I got exactly what I wanted! After only a month in bottles a crate of this was happily consumed over the Christmas break with plenty of compliments on the taste and quality. I'd definitely use this recipe pack again, especially if I was looking for a reliable beer that suits most people's taste.
Great full bodied ale! This was my first ever extract brew and I was really pleased with the results! I have since done four other different batches and this is the second best! My tip would be to follow the recipe to the letter, don't treat the grain like a tea bag and leave it in the bottle as long as you can I managed to keep a couple of bottles and they are now really good after three months! Close to the real one! This was my first extract brew and has come out close to the real thing.
I can tell the difference but it is pretty darn close. Enjoyable pint that was easy to make thanks to the great instructions from BrewUK. Recommended if you like Pride.
But perhaps don't go for the cheapest yeast. Almost the real thing! This kit is easy to do and results in a cracking good pint. I may vary choice of yeast next time, I used Safale dried for this one often find the extra cost of the liquid yeasts is worth it but didn,t use it this time. In a comparison tasting to the bottled "real thing" this was pretty close, however I think it lacked that slightly marmalade element so often present in the hand pulled original.
Maybe a different yeast will help that. Not quite up to the standard of the ESB kit but I will definitely do again though. Spot on. Followed Brew UK's instructions except used sparging bag for grains and dry hopped for 10 days before bottling. Tasted great straight outa FV and really looking forward to a few weeks of conditioning in bottle.
My Hop Head Pal reckons he can hardly tell the difference between it and the real thing and is also looking to help me consume yeah right. If you're a LP lover try this, you won't be let down. Cracking Pint. I have to say after weeks in the barrel this is a great pint. I had a bottle of LP to compare and the aroma was very close and the taste of mine a little more malt but very close. I went with the WPLoo2 yeast, made my starter and off it went.
After 14 days in FV it cleared beautifully. Kit and instructions were easy to follow and usual fast delivery. For a cracking pint brew this! My first even extract brew.
